READERS′ THEATER
submitted by Christine Harris

Our first graders learned of some Americans who helped to form our country
and played a significant role in its’ history during the recent months. We learned about numerous figures through lessons in social studies and by reading and creating book reports. Through discussion, we determined that one of our most important leaders was George Washington, founder of our country.

As our culminating activity we presented a Readers’ Theater production centering on the life of George Washington on Monday, February 22nd, which was Washington’s birthday. The children read their parts in small groups for their parents and, later, some of their peers on the stage of The Katherine Potts Library. Everyone enjoyed participating in the fun, creative and yet very educational activities!
