March 2, 2010 DR. SEUSS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
Tuesday, March 2nd marked the birthday of Theodore Geisel but everyone in lower school also knows him as the famously funny author named Dr. Seuss! Students were invited to bring any of their favorite Dr. Seuss books and stuffed animals to school for our afternoon celebration. Some brought their own hats similar to one worn by the character named The Cat from The Cat in the Hat. Others made a red and white tall hat before the event. Our “guest reader” was none other than Headmaster Mr. McGee! He read the story entitled, Yertle the Turtle, with some assistance from his dog, Halstead, and Mrs. McGee. All enjoyed the story and many lessons were learned from the characters Yertle, Mac and the other turtles. Reading partners were formed and everyone spent a time of reading together. We took part in singing a number of songs about Dr. Seuss and one was Happy Birthday to You! Everyone enjoyed a piece of birthday cake and answering trivia questions about one of our favorite authors!
